4G Clinical Announces Support for AWS for Health Initiative

WELLESLEY, MA (JULY 15, 2021) – 4G Clinical, a cutting-edge randomization and trial supply management (RTSM) company, announced support for the AWS for Health initiative from Amazon Web Services (AWS). 4G Clinical’s collaboration with AWS has helped the company scale and accelerate clinical research, bring crucial medicines to those who need them and disrupt the way trials are executed.

AWS for Health is an initiative featuring services and solutions from AWS and AWS Partners, built specifically for healthcare, biopharma, and genomics customers. The initiative makes it easier for health customers to select the right tools and partners for their highest-priority workloads across the health community. For customers looking to accelerate deployments with solution-specific support, AWS for Health also identifies dedicated AWS health industry specialists, AWS Professional Services teams, and leading AWS Partners in each solution area.

4G Clinical’s Prancer RTSM® software enables critical functions of a clinical trial, including randomizing patients, dispensing drugs, and site resupply. AWS has served as the backbone for all the company’s software engineering, study delivery and production environments. The security and agility of AWS has also helped 4G Clinical streamline client-specific studies, scale deployment and expedite product development to outperform legacy RTSM platforms and cut down average trial setup timelines to two-to-four weeks.

4G Clinical created Prancer RTSM® with agility in mind. Powered by Natural Language Processing (NLP), Prancer RTSM® interprets written study specifications and automatically builds a deployable system. This allows clients to iteratively review and provide feedback on the actual RTSM system, build, and deploy studies within weeks and implement post-go-live study changes in days at low to no cost.

AWS provides the resiliency and scale required for 4G Clinical’s global product engineering and DevOps teams at scale around the world, enhances its ability to create and alter Prancer RTSM® deployments, eliminates disruption to end-users during product updates, increases capacity to meet specific computing and storage needs for clients, and ensures multi-region compliance requirements (i.e., GDPR) and implementation of Disaster Recovery solutions for region-specific customers.

The flexibility and global availability of AWS played a crucial role in supporting 4G Clinical’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. By employing modern DevOps processes that leverage the cloud, 4G Clinical stood-up support for nearly a dozen COVID-19 trials in record time, including one study which went live within six days. AWS also enabled 4G Clinical to rapidly develop and deploy new Prancer RTSM® features in response to COVID-19, such as direct-to-patient (DtP) capabilities to support decentralized trials and alleviate the pandemic’s globally disruptive and costly impact on traditional clinical trials.

“The breadth and depth of AWS services has helped 4G Clinical meet the demands of our customers worldwide while continuing to help advance our approach to clinical studies and product development,” said David Kelleher, CEO, 4G Clinical. “In addition to powering rapid study deployments, AWS has been instrumental in supporting core product innovations driven by COVID-19, such as building Direct-to-Patient (DtP) functionalities for vulnerable patients unable to travel to test sites. This has allowed us to deliver medicines directly to their homes and optimize accessibility to clinical trials in record time.”
